Overnight rain, and selective watering of the track on Saturday afternoon, ensured the Milton Park circuit remained in near perfect condition for racing on Sunday’s season opener of the British QX Championship.

Race 1 start; Tom Day #139, George Callaway #89, Liam Garbett #13

Over 20 of the UK’s best quad racers competed across the classes, with former multi-British champ Paul Winrow in the mix. He showed he can still run with the young guns, but George Callaway was out in front in the first moto to take his first race win of the season, ahead of Mark McLernon who charged from 15th on the opening lap to pass reigning champion Paul Holmes in the closing stages of the race. Holmes secured third ahead of Under-21 rider Tom Day in fourth and Winrow in fifth.

Holmes took a flag-to-flag win in the second race, with Harry Walker - making up for a poor opening race- keeping him company. Third place went to Callaway with Carl Bunce and Justin Reid rounding out the top five.

Mark McLernon finished second overall in the premier class

In the third and final race, Holmes took another great start to claim victory with the overall and the early championship lead. Second place went to McLernon, with Walker in third, followed by George Day and Reid. The top three overall positions in the premier class went to Holmes, McLernon and Walker.

Harry Walker finished third overall and won the Under-21s

The Under-21 class saw Walker take the win ahead of Tom Day and Murray Graham.

Milton Park marked Ayrton Knowles’ debut in the British Championship. The former Youth champion managed an impressive 13th overall and the Rookie of the day award.

Wood leads Walker in the 250s

In the Youth 250cc support, Scotland’s Robbie Wood took the overall victory with a 2 – 2 – 1 scorecard, ahead of Alfie Walker, who took the first two wins before having a problem in the final race. Dylan McKenna rounded out the podium.
