EURO STARS HEAD FOR HEIGHTS

September 15 2016.

Two stars of the 2016 European Championship will bring an international flavour to the last round of the ATVs Only British QX Championship at Canada Heights, on October the 2nd.

Dutchman Marc de Vries, pictured above), who finished fifth in the European series, and Czech rider, Zdenek Polacek, who was sixth, will both contest the event at the famous hillside track in Kent (BR8 8DX) as Wildcards.

De Vries (Yamaha) was fifth despite only contesting five of the six European Championship rounds and finished inside the top ten in every heat he rode in, while Polacek (KTM) got stronger as the year went on and notched up two fourth places in later rounds.

The pair will be part of a packed quad line-up at the event - which also features the final round of the Maxxis British Sidecar Championship. With series still undecided, the racing is sure to be keen.

Northern Ireland's Mark McLernon (Honda) goes into the event on 323 points, 36 points ahead of the reigning champion Paul Holmes (Yamaha), and with 75 points up for grabs from the three races McLernon could technically clinch the title in the opening moto. However, you can guarantee that Holmes, three times a British Champion and former European title holder, will not be making it easy.

Veterans Justin Reid (Can-Am KMX) and Carl Bunce (Suzuki) are in a private battle for third in the championship and are split by just five points. However, in the separate Komfort Services Vets Cup, for competitors over 30, they are split by just a single point at the top.

In the Willcock Holefomers Under 21 class, Ireland's Leon Rogers (Kawasaki) takes a 46 point lead into the final round ahead of Luke Cooper (KTM) of Wales, with no other rider capable of lifting the title. Fellow Welshman Dafydd Davies (KTM) is third. However, he only has a four point margin over Harry Walker (Yamaha). Davies will be able to concentrate on that fight though, as he has already clinched the Komfort Services Rookie Cup.

There are still one or two Wildcard places available for suitable riders. Interested parties should email series manager, Rob McDonnell on quadrobmcd@gmail.com
