GREAT 8 WEEKEND DATE

August 25 2015.

The annual Great 8 event takes place this weekend at the Dauntsey Circuit on the outskirts of Wooton Bassett and before the Great 8 main event on Sunday there are another five support events to be sorted on the Saturday.

First up is the Youth Quad group with two main classes for riders on up to 250cc four strokes and then the Youth A class on up to 125cc machines. The youths get to race for a total of four hours and can compete as a team or as individuals. Last year's event was won by George Betton and Matthew Morris riding as a team, with Jamie Bone taking the individual honours.  With Morris and Bone now competing as adults, this class is open to new Champions in 2015.

Next up on the circuit will be the Evo and Trike one hour session with Evo, Evo Plus and Trike classes to race for. 2014 Evo Plus winner was Trevor Humphries on 17 laps, whilst Geoff Otway matched his laps to take the Evo class win. The Trike win went to SxS racer Richard Avis who will be back to beat himself about on the machine with no suspension.

Sunday's main Event is due to get underway for the Adult Quads at 09:30am for their gruelling eight hour session.  Again there are three main classes involved; the individual Ironman/lady class for one rider and one machine, the Ironquad class where two riders share one machine and then the team class for two riders on two machines.  Last year's victory went to Elliot Downes and Jordan Hickman, with Sam Jeffrey and Shane Orchard in second. Both teams completed 62 laps. The Ironquad class win went to David Lickfold and Dean Porter on 58 laps and John Hall was the Great 8 Ironman on 57 laps. Katie Hodgson picked up the Ironlady award, finishing on 54 laps and completing the full eight hours.

As with every other Great 8 event there will be the usual beer tent and the Great 8 Tankard. Parents of the youth winners on Saturday and the Adult winners on Sunday get the pleasure of downing the eight pints of beer in a time set by the onlookers…..the penalty for not getting it finished is to tip the remainder over your head. As an added bonus this year there will also be live music with The Corsairs on Saturday night.
