JOHN WOOD 1938 - 2018

March 20th, 2018.

We have received the sad news that John Wood has passed away. Many older quad racers will remember John from the early days of quad racing from 1987 to around 1993. John's son Mark was a regular quad rider during this time and John always helped out at the southern quad events, with scrutineering at Paddy Thorne’s championship events and as Clerk of the Course at Cobra Quad Club and Mid Hants Quad Club meetings.

Always firm but fair, John would be a regular fixture at the beer tent on Saturday night, ready for a pint with the lads. He even had a go at racing, first on Mark’s 500 Suzuki and then Richard Cole’s 250 Suzuki, which he found a little a little bit easier to ride. The following week he raced the 500 again at Elvetham, but a trip over the bars resulted in some broken ribs and his quad racing career ended there!

There were many times John would help dismantle the track with his old Datsun 4x4 pick-up which also came in handy at muddy meetings to tow vans and trucks out of the pits.

When Mark retired from racing, John spent many happy years riding and showing his classic motorcycles.

In 2017 he was diagnosed with heart failure, and after a short spell of ill health, he passed away on the 9th of March.

He leaves wife Anne, children Mark and Debbie, and grandchildren, Adam and Emma.

John's funeral is on Monday the 26th of March, 2.30pm at Boston Crematorium, Lincs.

Donations to go to Great Ormond Street Hospital.
