Ulster Quadcross Championship, round 6, 31st August 2019, Tinker Hill, Newry, NI

The penultimate round of the 2019 Ulster Quadcross championship proceeded as planned last weekend, despite torrential rain overnight. The club’s decision to run the event was vindicated when the sun shone on a great day of racing.

Mark McLernon tied up the Ulster championship with one round still to go

In the ATVs Only Premier Quad class, Mark McLernon was once again in dominant form with a cruise to the opening moto win. A huge battle for second ensued behind him between Kyle Murphy and Dean Dillon. Murphy held onto for second, whilst an unfortunate Justin Reid was side-lined with a faulty fuel pump.

McLernon again dominated the second race, with Reid second, local man David Cowan third, and Dillon fourth. However, it was a different story for the final race as, after a heavy shower slicked up the track, Reid grabbed the holeshot and was never bettered for the whole race. McLernon gave chase though, and was never more than half a second adrift for 14 laps until he caught a hole on the last corner of the last lap and ended up upside down in the fence. He recovered to finish sixth and clinch the crown one round early, after a dominant season.
