There was a lot to celebrate in Scotland this weekend when some of the best quad racers in the North of the country gathered for their annual awards ceremony. In a break with tradition, the national Scottish ACU and Quad Racing Scotland club awards were presented together this year.

Leon Beda took the Scottish Championship title with Murray Graham awarded runner up and they reversed positions in the club championship with Murray retaining the title he won for the first time in 2014.

In the Adult support rookie Nash Singer won both championships, just rewards for his outstanding performances in his first year in an Adult class.

Paul Davie won both series too in the Over 40s class, the former Scottish Champion claiming that he has now retired from championship racing, though some sceptics think otherwise.

Katie Cornett, Scotland’s only female junior quad racer won the 50cc clubman class while young Lee Peters defended the title he won last year winning the 50cc modified class.

In his first full season, nine year old Rory Wood won the 100cc standard class, showing his potential racing alongside the fiercely contested 100cc modified class all season. Another competitive young rider Louis Tobin took the 100 cc mod title, ahead of a group of three young Scots, Kieran Coates, Dylan Coates and Logan Tindal, who have created quite a spectacle, racing together hard all year.

The older youth classes were won by Robbie Wood (150cc 4-st geared), Aaron Swan (250cc standard) and Lorne Sinclair (250cc Open).

There were also awards presented for the QRS Championship Evo class, which was won by Iain Clark, and the Adult solo class, which was won by Nico Beda, elder brother of quad champ Leon.

Runner up in the solo class was the same Iain Clark who won the Evo class. Despite becoming eligible for an Over 50s class this year - had there been one – he is the only rider in Scotland to double enter himself in two classes on each round, such is his enthusiasm for the sport.

But the biggest cheer of the night was reserved for the legendary Ian Neill who was presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award by QRS for his services and dedication to the club.

Presenting the award on behalf of QRS, Frank Tipping (the club’s regular starting gate manager) said: “Ian is a very willing, generous and patient volunteer. Not only is he a scrutineer, he has served on the QRS and SACU committees for more years than he’d care to remember, putting in huge personal effort and time to make it possible for us all to go racing. He has probably won hundreds of trophies for his racing achievements over the years but this award especially honours his dedication off the track which has benefited everyone in quad racing in Scotland”.
