SEAL SHINES IN FRANCE

Sheldon Seal bounced back to form at the penultimate round of the French Sand Championship last Saturday when he finished fifth in a field of 143 starters at Grayan et L’hopital.

In a race when many of the championship’s front-runners hit problems, Seal also hauled himself back to sixth in the Championship after a DNF at the previous round had seen him slump to 12th overall.

Seal completed 12 laps over the two and half hours to finish 4m 17s behind racer winner, Matthieu Ternynck. The 2012/13 series champion moved into the lead late in the race after long-time leader Antoine Cheurlin hit problems.

“The track is my least favourite of the series, but I plugged away and I have to be honest I struggled physically today, so I am really pleased with the result,” said Seal.

Fellow Brit Harry Walker also had a strong ride, finishing in seventh place, nine minutes behind the winner. “I had no fifth gear the entire race,” he said.

The only other Brit in action, Harry Miller, was 39th, two laps down on the leaders, after being hampered by a broken exhaust.

Cheurlin now goes to the final round of the series at Le Touquet on the 1st of February with a slender points lead, after Romain Couprie completed only one lap to record his first DNF of the year
