SHAKE-UP FOR PDV

February 26th, 2018.

The 2018 edition of the Pont de Vaux 12-Hour in August will see a big change in the race format as the organising committee has re-jigged the schedule to make way for other classes. As a result, this year the main quad event will be contested over four races instead of the previous three.

Instead of the traditional Saturday start, the 32nd running of the French classic will now start with a two-hour race on the Friday evening, starting in the twilight and ending in the dark.

Saturday will again see the bulk of the action with a three-hour race in the afternoon, followed by the infamous five-hour night race. All that means Sunday’s usual four-hour race will be shortened to just a two hour “sprint”.

The popular Kenny Cup support class, which usually attracts a bigger entry than the main event, and is becoming increasingly popular with British teams, will continue to be run over a pair of two-hour races.

The move is all part of the organisers' attempt to introduce more support classes and turn the event into more than just a quad festival.

A new edition this year will be an hour-long solo race on the Sunday morning for up to 70 riders. Solos used to have their own separate 8-Hour event at the same track, but this has not run for a few years.

In recent years the organisers have also introduced a youth quad class and a Side x Side class, both of which have steadily grown in popularity.

This year the kids get three 15 minutes races, while the Side X Sides will get five 45 minute races.
