Quad racer, Lorne Sinclair (15) from Connel, near Oban, took overall victory in the 250 Youth Class last weekend at the Grittenham track in Wiltshire. Riding a Honda 250 Hybrid, race prepared by UK Bling Bars, he was competing in round two of the NORA-MX Quad Championship, showing true commitment both on, and off the track, with a twenty-hour road trip and three tough races.

With almost thirty quads on the start line, Sinclair rode hard to take second to series favourite Ayrton Knowles in the first moto. “Just amazed I even got second, given the mistakes I was making!” he commented.

Race two was equally challenging. Connor Paxton took the holeshot, followed by Knowles and, with the track turning solid and slippy, Knowles took the lead within minutes. But Sinclair pursued him relentlessly, racing almost side by side at certain points, before he made his move with just one lap to go, to take the win.

With a first and second apiece, the third race was the decider and Sinclair made a superb start, taking the holeshot in spectacular style. As the pack emerged from the dust, Knowles was hard on his heels and another close race was underway. But Sinclair defended well and led throughout, taking top honours for his efforts.

Both riders were upbeat at the end, Knowles posting “…had fun battling with you” and Sinclair joking “I’d say the 10 hour drive down was worthwhile.”

And with round three of the Southern-based championship taking place on 26th April, at Pontrilas in Herefordshire, it’s not long to till all eyes will be on Sinclair and Knowles once again.
