American superstar Chad Wienen has shelved plans to return to the Pont de Vaux 12 hour in France this summer, following the early birth of his first child.

The five-time AMA champion and his wife Danica were expecting their baby next month, but their son, called Laken, arrived last weekend.

Although mother and baby are in good health they have now decided to stay in the USA this summer. Wienen had been scheduled to ride with Jeremie Warnia in the French-based Team Clody outfit, as he did last year.

“We were looking forward to coming to Pont de Vaux again, but think it is better for us to take time to settle in our new family and wait until our baby is a little older before making such a big trip,” said Wienen this week. “We hope to see many of you at the Quad Cross of Nations in Denmark in September.”

Team USA has already said it plans to return to defend the title it won when making its debut in the competition in Italy last year.
