WOR EVENTS NATIONAL QUAD HARE SCRAMBLES – Race Report

May 17th, 2017.

Round 3, Clatter, Mid Wales, Sunday 13th May 2017.

Jason Wildman’s thundering 1000cc quad was the machine out in front at the latest round of the WOR Events National Hare Scrambles for Quads last weekend. Wildman has won two of the three rounds so far and, on this form, he looks like the man to beat for the series.

The 4x4 Expert riders completed eight laps of the 10-mile circuit in the set 2.5 hour duration. Keeping Wildman real at the front was runner up Endaf Owen, who finished just over a minute behind. Tom Jones was a superb third, although a seven minutes adrift of Owen.

The challenging track was testing for the quad riders as they climbed to over 1600ft on the huge mountainside, and giving them lots to think about and negotiate as they tackled the unforgiving terrain. Enjoying these conditions and blasting to the 2WD Expert win was Ben Dean (Yamana); the only rider in this class to complete the eight laps set by the 4x4 guys. Runner-up was Ben Roberts with Tudor Roberts behind him, both riders completed seven laps each.

Top Clubman 4X4 was Graham Guy, again on a big winning streak and the only rider in class to post eight circuits of the huge mountain. Runner-up was Derek Burns, with Neil Martin (Yamaha) chasing him down for third spot and an equal seven laps.

Luke Billington was also flying in the 2WD Clubman. He managed eight laps and a fine seventh overall as he pushed Danny Gilligan, riding superbly on a on a borrowed quad, into the runners-up spot and Hefin Morgan into third place – these two were having a real bar-to-bar race.

All riders left the venue thoroughly worked out, tired and happy. A quote on social media from Wildman read simply, “Best enduro I’ve ever done!” Enough said …

WOR as always would like to thank all the staff and helpers involved, sponsors, caterers, medics and of course, the riders for supporting the event.

WOR’s next quad race is on Saturday the 10th of June back at the always-popular Baden Hall in Staffordshire.
