‘WET’ MEON PULLS THE PLUG ON NORA-MX

May 19th, 2021.

The fourth round of the Nora-MX 2021 Club Championship was set to be a glorious affair last weekend at West Meon in Hampshire, with full grids across all quad and sidecar classes. However, the great British weather decided to intervene.

Five Nora-MX Pros braved the punishing conditions at West Meon

Saturday was dry with some overnight rain as predicted and a forecast of a 10-minute shower for Sunday morning. But, as Nora-MX’s Richard Shaw outlines, the forecasters got it so very wrong. “It went from the best to the worst in an hour,” said Shaw. “Everyone walked the track and commented on how great the track looked. All the adults went out for first practice and it was all looking prime before second practice, then the heavens opened. It never stopped raining and it was torrential.

Clubman Elite and Masters A went out first, followed by the 250s, and then five Pro/Pro Am riders braved the conditions. The Hammersley brothers David and Simon hauled their machines through the quagmire to take first and second, with Mark McLernon third and Pro Am winner Kevin Meenagh fourth. Dafydd Davies completed two laps of the gruelling track but was sidelined with machine problems.

The Clubman Elite & Masters A were first out

A rider meeting was called and a show of hands put a stop to further racing. Shaw further confirmed that the results from the weekend will stand. “I have no agenda to any rider,” explained Shaw. “The riders who went out earned their finishing positions and deserve the points. I stand by my decision.”

The results from the classes that raced are;

Pro: 1. David Hammersley, 2. Simon Hammersley, 3. Mark McLernon

Pro Am: 1. Kevin Meenagh

Clubman Elite:
1. Michael Hodges, 2. Daniel Scott Evans, 3. Sonney Ward

Masters A: 1. Edward Davies, 2. Chris Keitch, 3. Paul Winrow

250 Open:
1. Andrew Black , 2. Josh McKnight, 3. Lewis Humphris

250 Air-Cooled: 1. Arthur McDonald, 2. Frank Marston, 3. Morgan Junge
