British Quadcross Championship, Round, Dean Moor, Sunday 30th May 2021

The usual suspects were in the leading mix at the opening round of the 2021 British QX Championship held over the bank holiday weekend at Dean Moor, but Welshman Dafydd Davies was on tremendous form to take both race wins ahead of reigning British Champ Mark McLernon and Oli Sansom.

Young guns Alfie Walker and Robbie Wood, who are contesting both British and Under-21 championships, pitted age against experience to take hard-fought fourth and fifth overall, while Harry Walker rounded out the top six.

Clearly delighted with his first-ever British Championship overall win, Davies said; “I am so happy to have taken my first overall in the British and to be taking the points lead into the second round. I have won single races before, but it is something else to win both motos, the overall and the lead the championship.

“My day didn’t start off too well as, with my transponder not working correctly, I didn’t get a qualifying time lap which meant I went in last place to the start line, which was less than ideal. However, in the first race, I got lucky with a gate position that allowed me to get into the front row. I managed to pull the holeshot, kept my head down and controlled the race to the finish line with a comfortable 12 seconds lead. I was so pumped, as I’m still getting used to, and setting up, the new Graham construction/EDR KTMAHA.

“I got lucky again in race two by making it to the front row and again, getting a good start and pulling another holeshot. I tried to break away from the pack, but Harry caught onto the back of me from lap two and from then until the end of the race I had to ride smooth and clever to maintain the lead and take the win. It sure was a long 20 minutes plus two laps. I’d like to thank Ed Davies Racing, Graham Construction, Moto Wash, 9teen Graphics and Parts Europe for their faith in me.”
