Dragon Quad Racing Round 3, September 6th 2020, Greenhall Farm with ATVs Only and GML ATV

The third round of the shortened DQR 2020 season saw the team and riders head to the rolling hills of Greenhall Farm in mid Wales.

The day kicked off under blue skies as the youth racers took to the line on Sunday morning for their 1.5-hour stretch.

Oliver Pinder and Ethan Best battled it out in the 250cc Hybrid class with Best taking the top spot and Oliver second. The Youth 250 group saw Charlie Wheatley and Cai Evans swapping places at the front until a small mistake from Evans dropped him back and Wheatley was able to pull clear. It remained that way for the rest of the race with Wheatley taking the win ahead of Evans and James Maybury in third.

In the 125cc class, Alix Edmed-Callaway enjoyed a successful day after missing round two. She took an early lead and completed six laps to take the win with James Burnett second and Jake Robson third.

The Mini Quad class was back again with a good mix of entries; a class for 8-13 years catering for 50cc riders, 90cc riders and 100cc open riders over a shorter 30-minute course. There were lots of eager youngsters ready to go and race.

The 100cc class saw some new faces and after 30 minutes of racing Joseph Hayes was the winner in his debut with Stephen Collins second and Liam McGowan third. In the 90cc class, young Izzy Lloyd took her first win from Luke Waddington in second, while Tyler Willcock made it two wins from two rounds in the 50cc class.

The afternoon’s Adult racing got underway just after midday in perfect conditions but with the threat of showers possibly around mid-race distance.

The Experts and Expert Plus class combined. The returning Weston Beach Race Champion Jamie Morgan led the pack away with Alex Bethell in second. Bethell pushed him hard in the opening laps but Morgan held the lead and pushed on, setting fastest laps each time, it remained that way until the chequered flag with Morgan taking the Expert Plus win from Bethell - both with 14 laps – and Joshua Waring in third. Jim Evans wont he Expert class with Will Dunlop the runner up and Michael Williams in third – a reverse of the round two result.

Tom Stevens was back on the top step in the Clubman class with Ben Roberts in second and a notable third for Moose Pittaway. Jake Best went one better this round and took the Sportsman class win from Jack Evans in second and Liam Griffiths third.

Harry Stevens made it 3 from 3 in the 4x4 Lights with Neil Martin in second and Shaun Wealleans third. A packed field line up for the 4x4 Clubman class, with some new names at the front. Kevin Watson was the class winner and also an impressive third overall in the Adults, with Dean Jones second and Laura Linton third. The 4x4 Expert class was as competitive as always. Unfortunately, problems for Simon David and Jason Wildman ruled them out of securing podium places after some extremely close racing with both lapping within half a second of each other. Stuart Marley capitalised to take the win from Graham Guy in second and Nick Key third.
