MCLERNON JOINS WALKER ON EMX QUAD CHAMPIONSHIP PODIUM

September 22nd, 2024.

Heading into the final round of the 2024 EMX Quad Championship, reigning British QX Champion Harry Walker was within a single point of winning the championship. Multi British QX Champion Mark McLernon was a further 58 points adrift. La Colla in Italy was the scene for the title showdown.

Having qualified in third position, Walker was looking confident and comfortable. However, with six riders qualifying within less than a second of each other, there was no time for complacency.

Marcus Thomsen took the race lead but was quickly passed by Manfred Zienecker. Walker was in a strong position with McLernon in the mix. At the mid-race point Walker was closing the gap on the leader. As the two-lap board went out, Zienecker had increased his lead to four seconds. As the chequered flag fell, Zienecker took the race win, but Walker had claimed the championship title.

The gate dropped for the final race of the EMX 2024 Quad series under a searing sun. Karlis Neija took the initial advantage ahead of McLernon. Zienecker retired after one lap. Turrini left McLernon and Walker in his wake when he took the lead with only five minutes remaining. Former EMX Quad Champ Turrini won the race ahead of McLernon and new EMX Champ Walker.
