NETT GEARS UP FOR CONNOR SMITH MEMORIAL

July 1st, 2021.

This year’s Connor Smith Memorial will be a ‘cash-rich’ affair when the top quad and sidecar riders take to the track at Dean Moor on Sunday the 18th of July.

Day two of NETT’s next double-header will see cash awards for the top five in both the Quad and Sidecar championship classes, with the overall winner in each of those two classes scooping £660 apiece – Connor’s race number.

The top Under-21 Championship Quad rider will also be awarded the iconic wheel shaped perpetual award, which was created in young Connor’s memory for this annual event.

The Connor Smith Memorial Cup will be presented to the top Quad rider and, this year, in recognition of the fact that the Sidecar class is very much part of all NETT club events, a perpetual award has been commissioned for the overall winning pair.

The prize money for the runners-up in each of the two featured classes is £200 for second overall, £150 for third, £100 for fourth and £50 for fifth.

All quad support classes are running on Sunday too - both youth and adult. They will receive specially engraved trophies. The awards will be presented on the day by Connor’s family.

Sadly, the traditional Saturday night shindig in the marquee, where riders usually gather to remember Connor and fellow NETT club members Mark Watson and Bobby Carmichael, cannot take place this year because of the continuing Covid restrictions. However, the usual friendly family atmosphere around the paddock is expected to prevail!

Riders can enter the event via the ACU website. Day membership is available for those who are not signed up to the NETT club championship, which means all riders in the two featured classes are eligible for the cash awards.

If anyone needs help with entering, contact Stu Gair - sgair.nett@gmail.com. He will respond outside of working hours.
