Harry Walker, with his PSR by Rapport team, contested the third of the six-round 3AS Racing French Sand Championship last weekend at Hossengor, a seaside resort situated on the southwest corner of France.The Ronde des Sables Hossegor-Capbreton 2024 saw an impressive 180+ quads on the start line. After completing two rounds on a Yamaha 450R sand bike and sitting in third in the sand championship, Walker swapped to a newly-built and recently-tested Kawasaki hybrid. The quad, which is fitted with a 2024 Kawasaki MX motor and PEP suspension, is some 20kg lighter than the OEM Yamaha. It has been built by the PSR by Rapport crew with whom Harry has enjoyed great success at Pont de Vaux (PDV) in recent years.
After a good start, but overpowered by the Yamaha hybrids, Walker took the first turn in a top 10 position. At the halfway point, Walker had pulled through to sixth and pitted at 1-hour, 10-minutes, only for the race to be cut short some 10 minutes later for rider safety, due to the tide quickly closing in.
Walker finished in eighth, just ahead of team-mate Christopher Tveraen in ninth. He dropped back to fourth in the championship on 1345 points. But, with three rounds remaining, it’s still anyone’s championship.
The fourth round of the series, the Endurance of the Lagoons of Saint-Léger de Balson, stays in the southwestern area of France and will take place this weekend, the 7th and 8th of December.
Commenting on the upcoming round, Stu Walker said; “It will be tough and wet in the woods with black sand and short straights. This could well suit Harry as the development of the new Kawasaki powerplant improves week on week.”
Championship positions after three rounds;
1. Randy Naveaux, 1750 points, 2. Romain Colleatte, 1445, 3. Keveen Rochereau, 1420, 4. Harry Walker, 1345, 5. Jeremy Forestier, 1325, 6. Etienne Sannier, 1220.
Looking ahead to 2025, Walker will again contest both European and British Quad Championships, which he won this year.
